‘Contact’ Magazine May 2020 Edition

I’m thrilled my tiny piece of embroidery has appeared in the May 2020 edition of The Embroiderers’ Guild ‘Contact’ magazine. The piece for The Embroiderers’ Guild challenge ‘NHS – Reasons to be Thankful’ is lace mounted onto card and is 4 inches square. All the pieces will be collated to make large artworks for hospitals across the UK.

(Update May 2021: The collated work in this project can be viewed in a dedicated Embroiderers’ Guild Reasons to be Thankful: Thank You NHS – Part 1 E-Book )

I create my own embroidery under the name of Catherine Hill Textile Artist.

Have you submitted work too? Leave a message below and let me know.

It’s the second piece I’ve submitted to the Guild this year. My previous piece was for The Embroiderers’ Guild Members’ Challenge. The topic was “My Favourite Things”. My piece was called “The Sound of the Kenwood Chef”.

Anne Kelly – Meet the Artist

A little textile inspiration from my YouTube Textile Collection. Today it features the Textile Folk Art of Anne Kelly.

Anne, collects preloved cloth, recycled paper & ephemera. She then uses collage, stitch, photographic and print processes to create her unique form of mixed media Folk Art. Her heavily embroidered and textural works have been described as ‘small worlds’, with a small scrap or remnant of fabric that can inspire a whole piece – each taking inspiration from travel and memory.

Anne is a member of The Embroiderers’ Guild – UK and a member of The Society for Embroidered Work.

You can pre-order Anne’s new book ‘Textile Travels’ on Amazon.

Marian Jazmik – Meet the Artist

A little textile inspiration from my YouTube Textile Collection. Today it features the embroidered art of Marian Jazmik.

Marian’s work is very experimental and all her materials are sourced from discarded, reusable waste.

She stitches layer upon layer of heat treated synthetic fabrics to make some amazing textures – then embellishes these surfaces with found objects and embroidery.

Marian explains her creative processes in the video below.

Filmed at Knitting & Stitching Show 2019.
