Meet the Artist – Jo Beattie

A little textile inspiration from my YouTube Textile Collection. Today it features the beautiful embroidery of Jo Beattie.

Jo Beattie creates shadows to represent a fragment of precious memory held within a loved childhood toy. Each piece starts with a hand draw image which is then machine stitched in black thread. A recent piece of Jo’s work was purchased by the National Collection of Contemporary Textiles.

‘The strengths and uniqueness of British contemporary embroidery is due to the fact that it is founded on drawing.‘ Diana Springall.
